BROCKVILLE, Ont. — Via Rail passengers are bracing for more disruptions on the Toronto-to-Montreal and Toronto-to-Ottawa routes today, 24 hours after the derailment of a CN freight train near Brockville, Ont.
Via said in a tweet that six morning trains will be replaced by buses.
The rail company said line clearance is expected by noon ET and service is to resume gradually through the afternoon with some delays expected.
Charter buses transported passengers Thursday following the accident near the eastern Ontario city at about 4 a.m. About 3,600 passengers were affected Thursday alone.
Meanwhile, CN says crews are still clearing derailed cars and investigating the incident along with the Transportation Safety Board of Canada.
CN spokeswoman Lindsay Fedchyshyn earlier said no one was injured when the 26-car eastbound freight train derailed.
She said the train was hauling two loaded automobile carriers, five cars containing carbon powder and 13 unloaded fuel tank cars.
