UK: London: Tube strike threat: Feb 4, 11

Unions vote for four days of Tube strikes in protest at plans to close all 260 ticket offices

The RMT said staff will strike for 48 hours from noon on both February 4 and February 11, threatening travel chaos for workers and visitors to the capital

London faces the first major walkout of tube workers for four years after they voted for strike action over controversial plans to close ticket offices.

Some 8,300 members of the RMT rail union were balloted including station staff and train operators and 77% voted for walkouts on a turnout of 41%.

Members of the Transport Salaried Staffs Association (TSSA) will also vote in the coming weeks on a campaign of action in protest at the closure of all 260 Tube ticket offices.

Union leaders are furious that London Mayor Boris Johnson pledged to keep all ticket offices open, but the top Tory has now broken his election promise.
