UK: bad weather

BBC: UK sees return of snow, gales and ice
Fresh snowfall and gale force winds in parts of the UK are causing disruption, just weeks after severe weather led to school closures and transport problems.

More than 50 schools have closed in Northern Ireland and Scotland, and Manchester, Leeds Bradford and Belfast City airports are experiencing delays.

Snow fell overnight in Scotland, Northern Ireland and northern England, with up to 4in (10cm) on higher ground.

More snow is expected throughout the day along with 60mph to 70mph winds.

The Met Office has issued yellow warnings for snow, meaning be aware, for much of Scotland and England.

Strong winds are adding to the difficult driving conditions in affected parts of the UK. Drivers are being urged to be careful, particularly on untreated roads.
