…….as of Monday, EDT, Tropical Storm Talas was centered near 23.8 north and 140.1 east, or about 820 miles south of Tokyo, Japan. The storm was drifting northward at 2 mph. Maximum-sustained winds were near 65 mph with gusts as high as 80 mph. Talas is expected to continue moving generally northward over the next 48-72 hours while gradually intensifying into a typhoon. Talas is expected to approach Japan by Thursday and Friday with a landfall possible along the coast of Honshu.
