Travel Alert from Ottawa: Egypt

TRAVEL reports: Foreign Affairs and International Trade Canada have issued the following updates on the travel.gc.ca website to the following countries:

Egypt – Avoid non-essential travel

A nationwide curfew (from 02h00 to 05h00) remains in effect until June 15. Access to some areas may be restricted due to increased security measures and military presence on the streets. The Egyptian border with the Gaza Strip is open (see section 9 for more information).

Border crossings
The Rafah border crossing point to Gaza, which had been closed since June 2007, was reopened in May but has been subject to sporadic closures since then. The entry and exit of people remain controlled by border authorities in both Egypt and Gaza. Canadians should exercise extreme caution when travelling to this area due to ongoing violence in the Gaza Strip. They should consult local authorities and refer to the Travel Report for Israel, the West Bank, and the Gaza Strip for further information.

Go to www.voyage.gc.ca for more information on these advisories or call 1-800-267-6788 in Canada and United States.
