The Mayan Riviera is one of the most popular destinations when it comes to weddings away; and for good reason too! Located on the Yucatan Peninsula just south of Cancun and bordering the Caribbean Ocean! Whether you are imagining your special day on one of the award winning beaches, in an amazing garden or on a roof top over looking the sea, the Mayan has it all! With direct or connecting flights from most major cities across Canada, the Mayan makes for one of the easiest destinations for brides, grooms and their guests to get to! Once in destination there are tons of things to do including snorkelling, zip lining, swimming with dolphins and exploring ancient ruins!
There are many resorts in the Mayan that are wonderful for weddings, each offers something a bit different and will have different requirements for getting married. Most weddings done in Mexico are Symbolic, meaning the bride and groom typically get married in Canada before they leave. This is because getting legally married in Mexico can be quite tricky and often includes blood tests and translations!
This past November I was able to visit the Mayan Riviera where I saw many hotels and met with many of the wedding co-ordinators. All of them are willing to bend over back wards to make sure that your special day is just how you pictured it!
One of my favourite properties is the Ocean Coral and Turquesa, this resort is on the smaller scale with fewer than 600 rooms! It is located in the little town of Puerto Morelos right on the beach and offers many different wedding packages and locations to say “I do!” The wedding co-ordinator Ana, is amazing and will do everything she can to make sure your day is special and exactly as you would like it.
Another favourite is the Catalonia Playa Maroma! Located right on the award winning Maroma Beach this property is spectacular for those who have longed to tie the knot with sand between their toes! This property also offers a private little cocktail area that over looks Maroma Beach and the Caribbean; one of the most romantic settings to celebrate your special day!
