Foreign Affairs and International Trade Canada have issued the following updates on the travel.gc.ca website to the following countries:

Japan : Exercise normal security precautions

Shinmoedake volcano, on the island of Kyushu, erupted on January 26, and again on March 1st. Access to the area within four kilometres of the peak is restricted. Canadians should follow the advice of local authorities, including evacuation orders, and monitor local media.

New Zealand : Exercise normal security precautions
Christchurch and Lyttleton area: Avoid non-essential travel

Due to the 6,3 magnitude earthquake that struck near Christchurch on February 22, 2011, strong aftershocks continue to shake the area. Accommodation is very limited and water and power may not be available. Water used for consumption should be boiled. Telecommunications may be disrupted.
