Travel alerts from Ottawa: Iraq, Jordan

Foreign Affairs and International Trade Canada have issued the following updates on the travel.gc.ca website to the following countries:

Iraq : Avoid non-essential travel

International and national events may trigger demonstrations. Canadians are advised to avoid all political gatherings, crowds, and demonstrations, and to stay away from areas where they may take place, as they could turn violent without warning.

Jordan: Exercise high degree of caution

Demonstrations have been taking place more frequently since January 2011. Demonstrations have been occurring every Friday close to the Al-Huseini Mosque in downtown Amman. Canadians are advised to avoid all gatherings and demonstrations and to stay away from areas where they occur, as they may turn violent without warning. They should also monitor local news reports and follow the advice of local authorities.
