The U.S. Embassy recently received reports of armed robberies of Westerners in Tamale. In two incidents within the last month, victims were assaulted and robbed by assailants carrying machetes. The Embassy advises U.S. citizens to be aware of the potential for crime; i.e., to increase their situational awareness and take appropriate personal safety and security precautions, including the use of vehicles to travel in the greater Tamale area between dusk and dawn. Walking on roads, even for a short distance, is heavily discouraged after dark.
