One sport we see growing in popularity – and not just here in Canada – is kayaking. The great thing about this sport is that it’s so easy to pick up: within an hour or so you’ll be feeling comfortable paddling along (much easier than canoeing). No special fitness level is required, and there are so many options for calm water locations in which to learn the sport. It’s great for all ages, and you can often find kayaking combined with other sports such as biking, rafting or hiking for multi-sport holidays. From the polar regions to the tropics, kayaking is available. Here in Canada, try the beautiful coastal islands of British Colombia, or almost anywhere in Atlantic Canada including the unbelievably scenic Bay of Fundy. Further afield, discover the mangroves of Belize, the submerged Roman ruins just below the surface of the sea in Turkey or even check out the hippos on the Zambezi River in Africa! There is nothing to beat kayaking to make you feel one with nature: the gentle cascade of the water off your paddle, the breeze in your hair and nature literally close to hand.
