Madagascar: floods

From the US Dept of State:

This emergency message alerts U.S. citizens to reports that heavy and consistent rains have caused severe flooding in the central highlands of Madagascar, and has prompted the Government of Madagascar to declare a state of disaster, including in the capital of Antananarivo.  Extensive flooding has washed out dikes and roads, and landslides are making transportation in the region difficult and potentially dangerous.  Authorities have identified and evacuated a number of landslide risk zones in Antananarivo, including the areas surrounding the University of Antananarivo and the Queen’s Palace. As a result, we advise U.S. citizens to exercise extreme caution while traveling in the region until the waters subside and infrastructure is repaired.  Follow local and national media for updates on flooding conditions, landslide risks and transportation routes.
