Germany: Jan 29: DUS, CGN strike by security staff

German union Ver.di announces airport strike

Security personnel union Verdi called new warning strikes at Düsseldorf and Cologne-Bonn airports for Thursday. This time passenger check agents are also called to walk off the job.

The Facts: Verdi had staged a warning strike by 150 freight, ticket and staff control agents at DUS and CGN last Tuesday, with minimum impact on traffic. Passenger security checks were not affected but the union said it would call further strikes later this week (read here). Verdi now announced that passenger security check agents will go on strike on January 29. The union said Thursday’s strike would “significantly” disrupt traffic at the airports. Verdi is in negotiations with German airport security industry association BDSW and demands significant wage increases. BDSW has offered increases of 2.7% in 2015 and 2.6% in 2016 but Verdi said they would keep many non-airport security agents in the low-wage category.
