Shanghai, China is home to two airports, one for domestic flights and the international airport, Pudong (PVG) which has garnered excellent reviews from Vision insiders including COO Brian Robertson who calls it “Modern and totally efficient.”
PVG is currently served by 66 airlines in its two terminals which feature business centres, foreign exchanges, mobile chargers and photo kiosks. Terminal 2 also features a museum, media entertainment centre and beauty salon as well as dozens of Chinese and western-style restaurants. There is also a medical clinic and, on the transfer level, a hotel.
If like many travellers you’re just passing through and you hold a Canadian passport with valid international travel documents and air tickets for a connecting flight, you can apply for a 72 hour transit visa exemption.
PVG, which is located 30 kms from downtown Shanghai, also scores points for accessibility, being located right on the Shanghai metro (subway) as well as accessible by 8 minute train service for just under Cdn$10 one way.
As Chinese travel grows exponentially and trade relations with the world continue to expand, Pudong is growing to meet that need. An expansion planned for next year will take its capacity from 60 to 80 million travellers annually.
