New York is officially more than the Rockettes, the Statue of Liberty and the Empire State Building. It’s also a key destination for business travellers – and a worldwide favourite, according to the World Travel Awards. Held recently for the 21st year, the awards acknowledge, reward and celebrate excellence across all sectors of the global travel and tourism industry.
Who gets to vote? Industry execs from around the world – those who qualify receive two votes – and members of the public who receive one. New York was up against fellow nominees Chicago, Dallas, Las Vegas, Los Angeles and Washington (what? No Canadian city worth of a nomination?). Award officials call it the “most prestigious and comprehensive awards” in the travel world, and clearly the folks at nycgo.com, the city’s official travel and tourism site, were pretty thrilled and proud.
