A Westjet Flight 428 from Edmonton to Toronto had to make an emergency landing in Thunder Bay on Tuesday morning due to possible smoke in the cabin.
TBnewswatch.com says initial reports to Thunder Bay Fire Rescue indicated there was smoke in the cockpit area of the jet, however, that turned out to not be the case.
“Our crews went onboard with thermal imaging cameras to see if we could detect the problem and they seem to have narrowed it down to an LED light that had burnt out,” Kiessig told TBnewswatch.com. “It seemed to be an indication of smoke so they always err on the side of caution.”
The plane was carrying 95 passengers and six crew members. Upon landing, passengers were evacuated from the plane as a precaution and firefighters were seen entering the jet from underneath the tail section.
Maintenance crews are now examining the plane and it will be up to Westjet to determine when the aircraft will depart.
Westjet passengers aboard Flight 428 will be placed on other flights to Toronto.
