A snowstorm is sweeping the mid-Atlantic and Northeast on Tuesday, bringing accumulations between 6 inches and 1 foot to Washington, D.C., New York City, and Boston.
The snow could stretch from northern Maine to as far south as Charlotte and Raleigh, N.C., causing slick roads and slowed travel on major interstates, including I-95, I-81 and I-77.
For part of the mid-Atlantic, such as the District of Columbia and a large part of Virginia, Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey and southeastern New York state including Long Island, this could unfold to be the biggest snowfall of the season so far.
Flight delays and cancellations are mounting in major eastern travel hubs. Already, Tuesday morning, hundreds arrivals and departures were cancelled along the East Coast.
Colder air will bring gusty winds and blowing and drifting snow, limiting visibility Tuesday.
