Taxi operators in Namibia plan a country-wide strike within the next two weeks.
The President of the Namibia Transport and Taxi Union, NTTU says, his union is unhappy about traffic fines issued to taxi-operators, who intend to hand over a petition for the attention of the National Assembly .
Werner January says the NTTU feels that taxi operators are always issued with heavier fines compared to other motorists.
They regard this as unfair and want lawmakers to urgently discuss the matter.
January threatens that all taxi operators across the country will stop operations from the 23rd of July, if MPs do not give them a satisfactory answer.
He also complains about areas where there is no parking for taxis in some towns, saying this makes it difficult for taxi-operators to function smoothly.
January expressed the sentiments, while addressing taxi-operators on the planned countrywide strike at Walvis Bay on Thursday.
