Air traffic controllers have said they will join a July 16 general strike, but stop work for four hours (12 noon – 4 pm), not 24. The work stoppage is expected to cause great inconvenience to travelers and require changes in flight schedules. Reconfirm your flight with the airline if travelling in or out of Greece on July 16
From Greekreporter.com: Just when Greece was celebrating what is poised to be a record tourist season, air traffic controllers said they would join a July 16 general strike, but stop work for four hours, not 24. The work stoppage is still expected to cause great inconvenience to travelers and require changes in flight schedules.
The controllers said they will walk off the job from noon to 4 p.m. According to Buying Business Travel, the majority of airlines are still planning to continue their flights to Greece though they must change some departure times since only military and emergency flights will be allowed to land or take off at Greek airports during the four-hour strike.
Easyjet said in a statement to passengers: “In order to protect your flight as much as possible we have had to change the departure times of a number of flights that day and we urge all passengers flying to any destination that day to check the status of their flight.”
Most transportation in the country will be affected by the strike called by the labor unions representing public and private workers, ADEDY and GSEE against more austerity measures and the looming firing of as many as 27,500 workers.
