PASSPORT Canada has issued a notice to Canadian citizens urging them to sign up with Registration of Canadians Abroad.
The free, confidential service keeps citizens connected with Canada in case of an emergency abroad, such as an earthquake or civil unrest. It also keeps citizens informed about an emergency at home.
Travellers can sign up online by clicking here and by completing the following steps:
? Choose a user ID and password.
? Activate the account and register the first trip.
Alternatively, travellers can register by mail, fax or in person.
To sign up for a Registration of Canadians Abroad account, travellers must be a Canadian citizen and have:
? A valid passport
? Contact information in the country they plan to visit
? An emergency contact in Canada
*By special agreement, Canada also registers Australian, Jamaican and Israeli citizens travelling in some countries.
