We got up this morning to another hot August day in Venice. It seems like a lot of the residents have gone out of town for the holidays. A couple of cruise ships are in town so there are quite of few tourists here.
After breakfast, we took a leisurely walk through the Dorsoduro district of Venice, which is right next to Academia. We stumbled upon the Peggy Guggenheim art museum and decided to finally visit this world class facility. Peggy Guggenheim lived in Venice for many years. She also ran an art museum in New York, but the bulk of her collection resides here in Venice.
After the museum visit, we headed over to via Garibaldi on the other side of the Grand Lido. I love via Garialdi because it has more of a local flavour. This is where you can eat at a sidewalk trattoria with the locals at very reasonable prices. After a sumptuous lunch, we headed back to the Dorsoduro and made our way to board the Sea Cloud II.
Boarding was relatively quick. The ship has a capacity of 98 passengers. Upon boarding we were warmly welcomed by Captain Evgeny Nemerzhitskiy.
The staterooms are first class for a vessel of this size, certainly larger than last night’s hotel room.
Had a great dinner with another couple from the north of England and then called it a day.
