UNIONIZED workers of Infraero, the Brazilian federal airport authority, will stage a 48-hour strike starting from Thursday, October 20 at 00:01 (local time) in all São Paulo airports: Guarulhos International Airport, Congonhas airport and Campinas airport. A walkout is also due to take place at the same time at Brasilia International Airport. Consequently, flight disruptions (delays and cancellations) are likely during the strike as the union has already announced that 90% of the staff, including cargo, maintenance and security workers, will join this action. Workers are protesting against the new plan unveiled by the government concerning the privatization of these airports. Guarulhos International Airport and Congonhas airport are the two main airports in São Paulo. The strike is likely to affect thousands of passengers. Passengers planning to travel by air to or from São Paulo and Brasilia are advised to check their flight status before leaving for the airport.
