A magnitude 5.7 earthquake has hit the South American country of Ecuador.
The moderate quake struck the east of the country at 03:53:18 GMT on Monday (09:53:18 PM Sunday local time). It was centred 183 km (113 miles) E of Riobamba, 190 km (118 miles) ESE of Ambato, 208 km (129 miles) S of Nueva Loja, Ecuador, and 243 km (150 miles) SE of the capital Quito.
The United States Geological Survey (USGS) registered the earthquake quake at 166.8 km (103.6 miles), a distance that helped minimise the risk of any damage being cased.
The latest earthquake comes almost exactly a year since a magnitude-7.1 quake was felt across much of the nation, including the capital, Quito.
The August 10 2010quake was centred 110 miles (175 kilometres) southeast of Quito.
