Bad weather forces as many as four emergency landing at the Indianapolis International Airport and 13 flights were diverted from Chicago on Tuesday. The runways were substantially busy on Tuesday to handle the emergency landing of two passenger airplanes, one private Leer jet and a military plane.
The first landing involved was a regional carrier of a United Airlines flight from Newark to Indianapolis, which landed about 8:30 a.m., after the 50-seat aircraft indicated a possible problem with the “auxiliary power unit.”
Between 11:30 a.m. and noon, a military aircraft with only the pilot aboard made an emergency landing after taking off from Camp Attebury en route to Fort Wayne. That plane showed a possible “trapped fuel indicator.”
Meanwhile, rain and other stormy weather in Chicago forced the diversion of 13 flights from O’Hare International Airport to Indianapolis. That was the number as of about 3:15 p.m., so additional adjustments were possible, depending on the weather.
