As of Tuesday, EDT, Tropical Depression 23W (Ramon) was centered near 8.5 north and 128.0 east, or about 630 miles southeast of Manila. Maximum sustained winds are at 35 mph, with gusts to 45 mph. Tropical Depression 23W was moving to the west-northwest at 12 mph.
Tropical Depression 23W will struggle to intensify over the next few days as it moves through the Philippines. Even as a tropical depression, this system has the potential to produce several inches of rain along with flash flooding and mudslides. Interaction with land will prevent any significant intensification through Thursday, but this system will move into an environment more favorable for development over the South China Sea at the end of this week. Once into the South China Sea, Tropical Depression 23W could move towards Vietnam or far southeastern China early next week.
Elsewhere in the Western Pacific, there were no active tropical systems, and none are expected to develop during the next 24 hours.
