The University of Toronto’s downtown St. George campus is closed as Toronto police investigate reports of a suspicious person inside Trinity College.
Police received two separate calls this morning to the university’s Trinity College building, on 6 Hoskin Ave., said Const. Allyson Douglas-Cook.
The first call, received at 9:15 a.m., reported a suspicious person inside the building with his face covered. A second call, about 20 minutes later, reported a person with a gun.
Neither of the reports has been confirmed, Douglas-Cook said, but police are treating the situation seriously.
The university has been placed on lockdown, and those inside the buildings are advised to remain in place until an all-clear is given.
Several units, including the Emergency Task Force, are on scene investigating, with a building search underway at Trinity College, which is currently under construction.
She says building security didn’t recognize someone wearing a mask, but police are uncertain if the person is a construction worker.
The closed U of T buildings include: Falconer Hall; the Faculty of Law; Trinity College; the Faculty of Music, Edward Johnson Building; the Munk School Of Global Affairs; the Gerald Larkin Building; the Varsity Centre, and all Victoria University buildings.
Queens Park is closed from Bloor St. W. to Hoskin Ave.
The Hospital for Sick Children tweeted that it “is currently in lockdown due to reports of suspicious person in UofT & Queens Park area. Please avoid coming to the area.” In a second tweet, it said “We are restricting entry and exit to sickkids buildings out of caution at this time.”
TTC trains are bypassing Museum Station both ways.
