Athens: Strike by railway and metro workers for 5 hrs May 26

There is a five-hour scheduled strike on Thursday, May 26 for the Athens metro and ISAP electric railway. Workers have planned to walk off the job from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m. in efforts to protest and demonstrate their discontentment with the government’s privatization laws.

This is one strike in a series of many as over the previous weekend there was no metro service in Athens and the ISAP electric railway, buses and trolley buses went on strike on Sunday. Members of the transport unions stated that the strikes were in protest to the government’s multi-bill.

Strikes are organized regularly in Greece to allow unionists and workers to attend rallies where they then decide what further actions need to be taken. The strikes are expected to continue as the tourism season kicks off in Greece due to the government’s ongoing plans to privatize the organizations.
