Martinique: general strike

Martinique – General Strike Feb. 5 – Islandwide
Security alert for Martinique (05/02/2019 6:49 PM – 06/02/2019 5:00 AM)
Summary
Martinique’s main labor unions, including the General Confederation of Labor of Martinique (Confederation Generale du Travail de la Martinique, CGTM), have launched a 24-hour islandwide strike Feb. 5. The strike is in support of anti-government protests in France. Most of the island’s unionized professionals will likely participate in the action, including municipal administrative workers, education workers, and transportation services employees. There have been no calls for protests; however, demonstrations in downtown Fort-de-France are possible, particularly outside of the City Hall (Grand Marche provisoire).

Authorities will likely deploy increased security near any location where demonstrations might take place. Localized ground transport disruptions are likely; however, civil aviation officials do not anticipate any strike-related disruptions at Martinique Aime Cesaire International Airport (FDF).
