France: Train strike

SNCF strike planned tonight, following morning of delays

SNCF has announced a train strike in the Alpes-Maritimes and the Var which will commence at 8pm tonight (Monday) and continue until 8am on Wednesday (3 February). It follows severe disruptions this morning due to a technical error on the line just outside of Monaco.

The technical fault this morning meant trains in the area were running late, and some were cancelled entirely. Services were beginning to return to normal at the time of publishing this article (12.30pm).

During the planned strike which starts tonight, TGV trains will continue to run as normal, while TER regional traffic is expected to continue only with minor disruptions: Marseille-Nice and Nice-Tende train services should be ‘as per normal’. There will be an ‘almost normal’ TER service on the Marseille-Toulon-Les Arcs route.

But trains on the the Les Arcs-Grasse-Cannes-Nice-Ventimiglia will see only one out of two scheduled services operating. The Intercity trains on the Nice – Marseille – Bordeaux route will be cancelled, and there will be disruptions to the night trains running between Nice and Paris.
