Greece: Railway strike threat: Jan 12, 14, 19, 21

Greek railway workers on Tuesday launched a series of walkouts that will affect the national rail network and the Proastiakos suburban railway that runs to Athens International Airport from the Doukissis Plakentias metro station.

Workers, who are protesting plans to privatize rail company OSE, are holding rolling, three-hour strikes on Tuesday and Thursday, with the action continuing on the same two days next week. Tuesday’s walkouts are scheduled from 5-8 a.m., 1-4 p.m. and 9 p.m. to midnight, while this Thursday’s will be held from noon to 3 p.m. Next Thursday’s stoppages will start at 5 a.m., 1 p.m. and 9 p.m.

Commuters to and from Athens International Airport are advised to use the 24-hour bus service from Doukissis Plakentias station, Syntagma Square or Piraeus Port.
