Germany: Dusseldorf Airport Evacuated then Reopened Due to Suspicious Pipe

The Dusseldorf airport in Germany was evacuated on Tuesday evening after a suspicious piece of luggage was found, with a pipe. Some believed it was a pipe bomb, according to reports.

Police partially closed the airport after a security alert was issued, reported Euro News.

The terminal building and access roads to the airport were closed.

German news site Derwesten.de reported that explosives experts looked at the luggage, which was unattended.

An official told the website that an “iron pipe” was discovered, but did not elaborate.

This is a purely protective measure,” said national police spokesman Achim Berke Kötter. “We wanted to absolutely eliminate any danger to travelers.”

Air traffic was also delayed.

There were no other details offered.
