Chicago: snow beginning Mar 5 after midnight

Chicago Tribune: 8:46 a.m. CST, March 4, 2013

Chicago could be hit with up to 10 inches of snow by midweek, adding another slap of reality in a winter that started out balmy.

The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm warning for northern Illinois and northwest Indiana for 3 a.m. to midnight Tuesday. Snow will begin falling Monday afternoon, with about an inch accumulating in Chicago by the evening.

The brunt of the storm will arrive Tuesday, according to weather service meteorologist Jamie Enderlen. “The big show, if you want to call it that, is going to be late Monday night through Tuesday,” she said.

The worst time will be from late morning Tuesday through early evening. The snowfall will be intense at times, with snow falling at rates of up to an inch and a half per hour. “That could make any sort of travel dangerous,” Enderlen said.
