Canadians should exercise a high degree of caution. They should avoid showing signs of affluence and ensure personal belongings, passports and all other travel documents are secure at all times.

2012 European Football Championship

Ukraine and Poland will host the 2012 European Football Championship from June 8 to July 1. In Poland, the matches will take place in Warsaw, Gdansk, Wroclaw and Poznan. In Ukraine, the matches will take place in Kyiv, Donetsk, Kharkiv and Lviv.

Take extra safety precautions, as petty crime such as mugging, pick-pocketing, purse snatching and luggage theft, may increase during this period. Ensure that personal belongings, including passport and other travel documents, are secure at all times. If attending the Euro 2012, remember that buying tickets from unauthorized vendors is illegal and may lead to legal proceedings.

There are long distances between the venues and poor road conditions may be expected as well as delays and congestion due to construction work on the roads. Carefully plan your journey in public transport, taking delays into account.

Canadian citizens could be required to show their passport at any border crossings.
